Let's talk about computers and the healthcare industry!
Traditional healthcare methodology was once one of pen and paper with handwritten notes from doctors and nurses, with the advancements of technology these have simply become a thing of the past. Computers and information systems have become a pivotal role in our modern healthcare society, revolutionizing the way all services in the field are managed. According to AIMS Bioengineering “Technological advancements have fundamentally transformed healthcare systems and significantly altered the interactions between medical professionals and information interfaces.” (Langote et al., 2024)
Electronic health records are a prime example of this, it has been the single most significant contributions to the healthcare field. They have allowed healthcare professionals to store and access patient information quickly and securely. This centralized system minimized the human errors and facilitated communication between multiple healthcare enterprises. This allows for robust patient care information sharing across the board.
As well as advancements in records management computers have also been a significant tool utilized in the research field. They are essential in the development of drugs, treatment processes, analyzing health data, managing vaccination programs and responding to and tracking disease outbreaks. In the next 10 years as we are emerging on the new frontiers with AI being implemented into the healthcare field, it is only a matter of time before AI modeling will take over most of these tasks and more accurately produce results for human care providers. “AI-powered algorithms are capable of interpreting medical images, such as X-rays and MRIs, with remarkable precision, aiding healthcare professionals in the early detection of diseases and the formulation of more effective treatment plans.” (Sahithya et al., 2024)

ReplyDeleteHello Cam,
We see electronics records being used in health care by migrating data to cloud service and being able to access these documents remotely. The old method was using CD and Floppy Disk to record information which was an old means of transmitting data that had to be done by hand. They also use technology when running simulations for manufacturing pharmaceuticals to predict impacts to individuals before running them through pilot programs.
